{Symphony}

To live content with small means;
to seek elegance rather than luxury,
and refinement rather than fashion;
to be worthy,
not respectable,
and wealthy,
not rich;
to listen to stars and birds,
babes and sages,
with open heart;
to study hard;
to think quietly;
act frankly,
talk gently,
await occasions,
hurry never;
in a word,
to let the spiritual,
unbidden and unconscious,
grow up through the common ~
this is my symphony.

-William Henry Channing

Mr. Channing lived from 1810 to 1884, and yet his words, which ring so true, could have been written yesterday.

Wishing you all a wonderful day, filled with beautiful music.

  1. That's a beautiful philosophy and a beautiful way of putting it. Once again I've learned about an interesting thinker and writer - thanks! And have a great weekend!

  2. Words to live by. You're right, over a century later that philosophy's as true now as it was then. Thanks for sharing. x
